At Lost Valley Dulcimers it is our goal to make an instrument that is not only museum quality, but also an heirloom that will be handed down for generations.
We consider tone and stability to be our first priorities.
String length and gauge have been carefully calculated to place even tension of approximately 35 pounds on each string. This creates a high tension instrument that is easy to tune, and stays in tune.
It will stay in tune and hold it's original shape and tone long after other dulcimers have lost theirs.
One of the keys is the floating sound board that allows the instrument to adjust to climate changes. Another is the use of the West System (2-part marine-epoxy) at all glue joints. It is well known for it's strength and stability and will not be affected over time or by climate changes.
Unlike many other dulcimers that are made "cookie-cutter style" in an assembly line fashion,
Every Lost Valley Dulcimer is hand made, one at a time, to assure good tone, stability, and longevity of each and every instrument, and give you many years of enjoyment.
Linda Foley and Curt Sanders have been making the Lost Valley Dulcimer for over thirty years.
Linda fell in love with the hammer dulcimer long ago. She is self taught and has been playing for over thirty years. She now teaches privately and at festivals throughout the Midwest.
Curt is a fine wood worker/craftsman and has been fine tuning and refining the Lost Valley Dulcimer for the past thirty plus years.
Inovations like pre-arching the back and internal bracing give strength, long lasting quality and stability.
This allows you to spend more time playing instead of tuning. These are only a couple of the reasons you've made a great choice.
Ask anyone who has one and they'll tell you. . . It's Great, it's a Lost Valley . . . . . .
